Synopsy

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 25, 2026

Synopsy is a macOS menu bar app that shows your own Google Analytics 4 visitor and page-view totals. It has no server, no user accounts, and no telemetry. Your data goes from Google to your Mac and stays there.

The short version

  • Synopsy reads your Google Analytics data with read-only access and shows it only to you, on your Mac.
  • Everything is stored on your Mac. Sign-in tokens are kept in the macOS Keychain.
  • Nothing is sent to us. We don't run a server, and we never see your data.
  • We don't sell, share, or transfer your data, show ads, or use it to train AI models.

This policy covers the Synopsy app for macOS and this website. Synopsy is made by Gleamworthy, the software brand of Eleista LLC. "We" and "us" mean Eleista LLC. If you have questions, email hello@gleamworthy.dev.

Data Synopsy accesses

When you choose Connect Google Analytics, you sign in with Google in your web browser and grant Synopsy these permissions (scopes):

  • https://www.googleapis.com/auth/analytics.readonly: read-only access to your Google Analytics data. Synopsy can't create, change, or delete anything in Google Analytics.
  • openid and email: your Google account's email address.

With that access, Synopsy reads only the following:

  • The names of your Google Analytics accounts and GA4 properties.
  • Each property's reporting time zone and creation date.
  • The website addresses of each property's web data streams.
  • Aggregate report totals for each property: total users (totalUsers) and views (screenPageViews) for the date ranges you choose, plus Google's report metadata, such as sampling and privacy-threshold notices.
  • Your Google account email address, from the email scope.

Synopsy only requests aggregate totals. It doesn't request information about individual visitors to your websites.

How Synopsy uses the data

  • To show your own dashboards, cards, charts, and the menu bar total, on your own Mac.
  • To use your email address to open Google Analytics in the right Google account when you open a website's reports, and to reconnect to the same account if Google asks you to sign in again.

Synopsy doesn't use your data for any other purpose.

Where your data is stored

Everything stays on your Mac. Synopsy has no server, so nothing is sent to us.

  • Sign-in tokens (Google access and refresh tokens) and your Google email address are stored in the macOS Keychain.
  • Preferences and cached reports (your property list, display names, website addresses, colors, order, and the most recent report data) and cached website icons are stored in the app's sandboxed Application Support folder:~/Library/Containers/app.synopsy.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Synopsy/

Synopsy communicates with Google over encrypted HTTPS connections. Sign-in uses Google's OAuth flow with PKCE, and the one-time sign-in response is received only on your own Mac (127.0.0.1). Synopsy never logs your tokens or analytics data.

Sharing

We don't share your data with anyone. Specifically:

  • We don't sell, rent, transfer, or disclose your data to third parties.
  • Synopsy shows no ads and contains no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or telemetry SDKs.
  • Your data is never used to train AI or machine learning models.
  • Your data is never used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
  • No person at Synopsy can read your data, because it never leaves your Mac.

Other network requests

To give each website card its colors, Synopsy downloads each website's favicon directly from that website, using the web stream addresses in your Google Analytics properties (or an address you enter). It requests the site's home page to find declared icons, and /favicon.ico. These requests go straight to your own websites, not to us or to any third-party favicon service. Your websites' servers see these requests like any other visit from your Mac.

Apart from these requests and the Google services described above (Google sign-in, the Google Analytics Admin API, and the Google Analytics Data API), Synopsy makes no network requests. When you open a website's reports, your browser opens Google Analytics, which is governed by Google's own privacy policy. When you click a website's name, your browser opens that website.

Retention and deletion

  • Cached reports and icons are kept until they're refreshed or you disconnect. Reports refresh about every 30 minutes while Synopsy is running, and icons are refreshed about every two weeks.
  • Disconnect (in Synopsy's Settings) deletes your sign-in tokens and email address from the Keychain, deletes cached reports and icons, and asks Google to revoke Synopsy's access. It keeps your website preferences, such as names and colors, so you can reconnect later.
  • You can also revoke Synopsy's access at any time from your Google Account atmyaccount.google.com/permissions.
  • To remove everything, quit Synopsy, delete the app, and delete its container folder,~/Library/Containers/app.synopsy.mac.

Because we hold none of your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Google API Services: Limited Use

Synopsy's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to theGoogle API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

This website

Everything above is about the Synopsy app. This section covers this website, synopsy.app, which is separate: the app never sends anything to it.

This website uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read, and how they found us, so we can improve the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, the referring site, your approximate location, and your device and browser type. We use these reports in aggregate only. We don't use them for advertising, and we don't combine them with any data from the Synopsy app. Google processes this data under the Google Privacy Policy; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

You can block these cookies in your browser settings, or opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Our host, Cloudflare, may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and requested pages, for security and reliability.

Children

Synopsy is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update it on this page and change the "Last updated" date above. If a change affects how Synopsy handles Google user data, we'll update this policy before the app's behavior changes.
